Inverness Orienteering Club (INVOC) offers a comprehensive coaching program designed to enhance the skills of orienteers across all age groups and abilities. Our sessions are typically held weekly during term time, usually on Wednesday evenings, at various locations around Inverness. During winter months, we focus on night training, while in other seasons, we conduct daylight sessions.
Coaching Groups:
– Adults: Open to all ability levels.
– iJOS: Targeted training for selected juniors at TD4/5 (Light Green/Green+).
– Talons: Junior training for TD3/4 (Orange/Light Green).
– Eagle Eyes: Beginner-level juniors up to TD2 (Yellow).
Due to limited space, advance sign-up is required to ensure adequate maps and coaching resources. Session availability may vary based on coach availability and weather conditions. We utilize the Spond app to communicate with training groups. If you’re interested in joining a group, please contact at enquiries.invoc@gmail.com or use the contact form.

Become a Coach:
We’re always looking for enthusiastic individuals passionate about orienteering and interested in coaching beginners and youngsters. You can start by assisting in coach-led sessions or pursue formal coaching qualifications. The current pathway involves attending a one-day Coaching Foundation Course, followed by a two-day residential course at Glenmore Lodge to achieve UKCC Level 1, qualifying you to coach up to TD3 with certain restrictions. Funding is typically available to cover course costs. For more details and course dates, visit the Scottish Orienteering Association National Centre Course Schedule. Junior Awards and Incentives:
– Star Awards: Our system enables juniors to track their skill development, ensuring comprehensive learning. Regular coaching attendance is essential to complete this program.
– Event Badges: Juniors can earn badges based on event attendance, with milestones at 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 events.
