Semi-Permanent Orienteering Courses

INVOC currently maintains three semi-permanent orienteering courses (SPOCs) in the Inverness area. You may use our SPOCs any time at no cost, though please do heed any safety or access instructions given on the map. These are ideal for youth groups, novices and families wishing to do try something new.

Ord Hill SPOC - click here to download maps (this link will take you to the British Orienteering site). This course is also set up for optional mobile phone orienteering using smart code technology - the map download has full instructions if you want to give this a go.

Nairn Links SPOC - click here to download maps (this link will take you to the British Orienteering site). Teachers / group leaders may want to know the letter codes which provide evidence that your participants have visited each control. These are as follows: 95N 92A 98I 91R 99N 94L 93I 97N 90K 96S.

Bught Park SPOC - click here to download maps (this link will take you to the British Orienteering site). Teachers / group leaders may want to know the letter codes which provide evidence that your participants have visited each control. These are as follows: 84D 80O 88W 82N 83S 87T 81R 89E 86A 85M.

(NB we do realise that someone could "cheat" by looking at the codes on this website but figured it was better than printing the codes on the back of the map!)

Resources for Groups

Are you a teacher or youth group leader interested in orienteering? Undoubtedly the best way is to get yourself on a course run by Scottish Orienteering - click here for the current course schedule. Secondly, you will feel much more confident explaining orienteering to others if you've taken part in an organised event yourself, so check out our events and come along.

You might find the following resources useful, but remember they will make a lot more sense to you if you've attended a course first:
