Inverness Orienteering Club is the local club for the sport of orienteering in the Inverness area and much of highland Scotland. Orienteering clubs are mostly known by their abbreviations so we are mostly known as INVOC.
INVOC holds a range of orienteering events and activities each year, and members participate in orienteering events large and small both locally and further afield. We also put on coaching activities and some social gatherings, and have club teams taking part in various team competitions.
Most of our members and most of our activity are in the Inverness, Nairn and Easter Ross area, but our 'catchment' extends to the west coast, Sutherland and Caithness. We have links with our neighbouring clubs, MOR to the east covering Moray and BASOC to the south covering Badenoch, Strathspey and Lochaber.
INVOC was founded in 1978, one of the original orienteering clubs in the Highlands, started after the 1976 world championships came to this part of the world and the first 6 Day Event, Highland 77. The club has played a major role in Scottish orienteering with many top competitors and officials having links with INVOC. Our local area has fabulous terrain for orienteering - as shown by the return of the world champs in 1999, and many other major events. The world champs was back again in 2015 and it was a successful event.
